To qualify as an International Accounting Technician students are required to complete the 9 examination papers and obtain the required work experience. Students wishing to undertake further study have the option of taking the 2 Fellow examinations and once they can demonstrate additional work experience can apply for Fellow membership.

The examinations are conducted throughout the world in April and November each year.

Practical Experience - What is required?

What is it?

Whilst success in the examinations provides evidence of your academic accounting abilities, a period of practical experience is necessary to ensure that you have the necessary hands on skill to apply the knowledge you have gained in a real life setting.

The requirement to complete a period of practical experience therefore needs to be met prior to being awarded Associate of Fellow Membership of SIAT.

Where can it be obtained?

The experience can be obtained in a variety of business settings - in industry, or private or public sector companies regardless of their size. Practical experience gained in a self employed situation is also valid.

When can it be completed?

The one-year period of practical experience required to qualify as an Associate Member of SIAT can be undertaken before, after or during the period of study for the examinations.

How is it documented?

Students will be provided with a document for recording the practical experience they undertake. Full information on relevant employment history and accounting experience gained should then be submitted with an application for Associate or Fellow Membership of SIAT at the end of the relevant period.
